Current Events Project
DUE MAY 17, 2011 – LATE PROJECTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! (Seniors are due May 9)
Choose a topic that is in the news. You may select any topic that interests you, from murder rate, crime in a specific area, to Libya Conflict, Japan’s Tsunami or the turmoil in the Middle East… the list could go on and on.
You need a binder, ½ inch will do fine, to compile news articles in. The best resource is the daily news paper because I want you to have current news with a date range March 1-Due date. You may use the internet, but it must be news paper articles, news magazine articles, and approved internet sources rather than random internet printouts (you may use WWLTV.com, NOLA.com, CNN.com or FOXNEWS.com – these are reliable news sources that can be used for current local or national information). I must be able to read the entire article, so in some cases, you may need to make a copy of the back side of a page. IT IS OK to fold an article to make it fit to a page, as long as I can open it and read the article.
Make sure you that cut out the date from the news paper/magazine/internet print out and include it on the page with your news article. Only one article per page is allowed, and fronts of pages only. Also, include the name of your source on the top of the page (Times Picayune, Newsweek, CNN.com, Foxnews.com etc.)
You need a minimum of 20 articles (slightly more than 2 per week for the 9 weeks…I mentioned this assignment at the beginning of class, and told you to start collecting. But if you haven’t, you are looking at collecting you are looking at about 3 per week.
At the end of your collection, you must write a 2 page analysis (Times New Roman, 12 pt font, Double spaced) of your discoveries. Include:
- Your topic
- Summarize what happened in your research.
- Did your topic experience any changes? If so, what caused the changes
- What are your feelings about what you discovered, learned?
- Extra points will be given for creativity and graphs that illustrate any data relevant to your discoveries
